Re: Logan Thunder Under 14 Girls’ Premier League Basketball Team
Girls’ basketball in Logan is ALIVE. It is with great pleasure we inform you that the local U14 Girls’ Logan Thunder basketball team has this season, had outstanding success.
The team won the South East Queensland District representative season, being undefeated throughout and contained Gold Coast in the grand final, to win GOLD. The girls’ target was then to carry this winning form through to the State Classics.
It is with great pride that we inform you that the girls came away with the number 1 ranking in Queensland winning the prestigious title of State Champions. The girls maintained their winning form, with 23 consecutive wins. The only Logan Girls Team to have achieved this success.
This is a fantastic achievement and has earned the team an invitation to the Australian Club Championships to be held in Kingston, Tasmania from 27th September to 2nd October 2010.
The success of the girls is not only the wonderful coaching received from Justin Vasterink and his assistant Casey Grant, but the commitment and dedication to this sport by the girls. The girls are committed to teamwork and know what it takes to be a great teammate. For some of the girls this has been their 4th season as Logan Representative Players. The girls are huge supporters of the local Logan Thunder WNBL team and have the dream of one day possibly playing for them
Obviously we are keen to promote the wonderful LOGAN name through their participation at the national competition and provide the players with what could be a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience in competing at this level. In addition, we have been promoting the team’s success with reports in the Albert & Logan and the Courier Mail newspapers and Inside Special Magazine. (See link below.)
We are writing to seek your assistance as you would no doubt be aware this will involve considerable cost (estimated $12,000 - $14,000 per team) for the girls’ families. We are beginning our fundraising endeavours and would greatly appreciate your support, so that we are able to provide the players with this opportunity.
As these girls are the future of Logan WNBL we hope that you will be in a position to help us, or provide us with support in some manner. We welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you and welcome any further advice. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.
